Introduction

Based on our survey, we identified several key gaps.

  • Many healthcare professionals lack awareness of the critical role of disinfection and sterilization, leading to inadequate infection control practices.
  • There is limited knowledge of traditional disinfection methods and a poor understanding of various sterilization techniques, resulting in improper use and higher infection rates.
  • Challenges in adopting emerging technologies and a need for practical skills in novel disinfection strategies were also noted.
  • Additionally, concerns about the cost-effectiveness of new technologies contribute to hesitancy in their adoption.
  • To address these gaps, we propose developing educational modules to enhance awareness and knowledge, conducting hands-on workshops for practical training, and using case studies to analyze successful real-world applications.
  • We also recommend providing cost-benefit analyses of various methods and keeping professionals updated on the latest research trends.

Objectives

  • Recognize the critical role of disinfection and sterilization in preventing healthcare-associated infections.
  • Identify and describe at least five traditional methods of disinfection.
  • Evaluate the advantages and limitations of various sterilization methods
  • Compare and contrast the benefits and challenges of implementing these new technologies in healthcare settings
  • Develop a step-by-step plan to integrate novel disinfection technologies with existing protocols.
  • Discuss the current research trends and their implications for healthcare practices.
  • Analyze three case studies to identify key factors for successful implementation of novel disinfection strategies.

Outcomes

By the End of This Guide, Participants Will:

  • Recognize the critical role of disinfection and sterilization in healthcare.
  • List key components of effective disinfection practices.
  • Identify and describe traditional disinfection methods.
  • Compare the effectiveness of chemical disinfectants.
  • Explain principles and procedures of various sterilization methods.
  • Analyze emerging disinfection technologies.
  • Develop plans to integrate new technologies with existing protocols.
  • Assess the cost-effectiveness
