The scientific committee found there is a learning gap in the principles of infection control in disinfection as follows:

  • Limited awareness regarding the importance of disinfection and sterilization in healthcare facilities.
  • Insufficient knowledge of how to apply the principles of disinfection and sterilization.
  • Unclear understanding of the distinction between disinfection and sterilization.
  • Inadequate comprehension of various disinfection methods and techniques.

Objectives

  •  Identify the importance of disinfection and sterilization in healthcare facilities
  • Describe how to apply the principles of disinfection and sterilization of patient care equipment using the Spaulding Scheme.
  • Differentiate between disinfection and sterilization.
  • Discuss the disinfection methods and techniques: Students should learn about different disinfection methods, such as chemical disinfection, heat disinfection, and UV disinfection, and understand when and how to apply them effectively
